10 things you should know before adopting a Siberian husky

Siberian huskies can be excellent companions for people fulfill and understand them and their special needs. Huskies have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years, a Siberian husky can be a very important member of your family for a long time.

1. How to fulfill your dog’s living conditions

Siberian huskies can’t fit well at apartments unless you can give your dog plenty of exercise. The perfect place for this bread is a house with a large fenced yard, as long as you don’t care about your lawn or garden because these dogs dig.

2. How to exercise your Siberian husky

Siberian huskies are known for their unique energy, huskies need daily exercise and can be great workout buddies. If you don’t have a large yard where your dog can play and run, you should take your dog out for walking or jogging everyday, but go easy on your husky when is summertime or warm weather.

3. How to prepare your yard

Before you adopt a Siberian husky, make sure that your dog can’t escape, because Siberian huskies like to explore and roam.You should have a fence that’s at least six feet high with wire or concrete barriers below the fence because huskies can dig out.


4. How to prevent  your dog’s escape

Never let your Siberian husky off-leash at the park or during a walk, because they can run away. This doesn’t mean that huskies are disloyal but Siberian huskies simply enjoys exploring and roaming around. If you adopt a husky, is good to take your husky at the vet and to get your husky microchipped, and make sure she always wears a tag with her name, your name and your contact information.

5. Optimal Climate

Siberian huskies like and do well in cool climates but can become uncomfortable and even can get ill heat. If you live somewhere hot, provide plenty of shade outside and have effective air-conditioning inside. At summer, you should exercise your dog early in the morning or late in the evening.

6. Shedding

Huskies can shed a lot because of their thick fur, especially at seasons and warm weather. Two times in one year huskies spend a week or more shedding very heavily. Plan on vacuuming your dog frequently, brushing at least daily and sharing your home with clumps of fur.

7. Leadership

Huskies have been born and bred to work with a leader. And that leader has to be you, if you can’t be that leader your dog will takeover. Exercise and obedience classes can help you establish a hierarchy with you and your Siberian husky. If you can’t provide consistency and clarity in your leadership, probably the Siberian husky  isn’t the right dog for you.

8. Siberian huskies and other pets

If you have pets such as cats, birds, rabbits and ferrets your home is not a safe place for them because huskies have such strong predatory instincts. Huskies can get along well with dogs of other breeds, but it varies by individual.

9. Temperament

Huskies are friendly, playful, intelligent and easily bored. If you and your family members are away from home for more than eight hours a day, the Siberian husky is not the right dog for you because when huskies don’t get enough activity they can be destructive and overly hyper, they also howl if they feel neglected, because huskies are a very friendly. Siberian huskies aren’t usually good guard dogs.

10. Appetite

Because Siberian huskies spend hight energy, you might think that Siberia huskies eat a lot, but you’d be wrong because they need little food. In fact, you might be surprised at how little food they need.
