We are used to see snoring as a normal thing. People do it, dogs do it, so what!
I would even admit that except the loud annoying noise that comes with the snore, we might even take a good laugh at watching our dogs snore in the most funniest positions ever.
Unfortunately there is another side of what might really cause your dog to snore that should have your attention. It might come out to be not funny at all.
#1 Some breeds are more prone to snoring than others. Take flat-faced breeds for example have shorter airways which causes them some trouble moving air in and out. This could be normal but a double-check wouldn’t hurt.
#2 As we all know allergies can give one a hard time breathing. Lucky, there are medications for dogs that ease allergy symptoms.
#3 Excessive weight means more tissue around the throat that can constrict airways. If the trachea collapses, it can be life threatening for a dog.
#4 Even a rogue tooth can become an abscess and that could lead to blocked airways and cause snoring. These abnormalities get infected easily and could require some special help.
#5 Fungal Disease occurs when someone inhales mold spores which cause irritation.
#6 Dog can get the flue same as we do. All that sneezing, snoring and wheezing happens because of the inflammation and irritation of the culprits.
#7 It seems like second hand smoking can be a factor as well. So if you are not ready to quit at least do not smoke it in front of your dog.
#8 Sometimes a fragment of a tennis ball or a piece of mulch can get stuck in you dog’s throat inhibiting his breathing. If this is the case you better take him to the vet.
