The thought of leaving an appointment at the doctor, even when it is just a check-up routine it is scary. We immediately worry just thinking about the visits. Thoughts come and go in our mind, wondering if everything in the check-up will come as it should be.
Same as us, animals may be afraid of needles as well. It is natural for the dog and his owner to experience fear and anxiety while sitting at the waiting room at the clinic.

#1 Always make sure to leave an appointment beforehand at the clinic to avoid waiting rooms.

#2 Play doctors with your dog at home. When a vet examines a dog they use bright lights, several equipment and personal contact. If you try this things in a playfully way with your puppy it will be less terrifying for him when the day comes.

#3 Reinforce basic commands. Some dogs start to behave very strange once they step foot at the clinic. This is a reaction due to fear. So if you try to distract them with commands while being examined it might help reduce the stress and fear.

#5 Give Pheromone Spray a try. This will help to mimic the hormone released by whelping mothers to soothe their puppies.

#6 Why not wait outside or even better go for walk while waiting for your turn to come up. The fresh air will keep your dog calm and stress free.

#7 Be smart. Schedule your appointment in the morning or after lunch. This are the best hours to be seen quickly and on time.

#8 Going accompanied is better than alone. If somethings comes up during the visit, having a backup never hurts.

#9 Skipping breakfast would be a good idea. Do not give your dog food before the visit because it might upset his gastrointestinal,  especially if he is experiencing any kind of stress.
