Since some dog owners think that it is OK for their dogs to stay outside in the Winter due to their heavy coat, Indianapolis has decided to make these dogs owners think a little better. First they want to make everyone understand that a heavy coat does not mean that a dog can stay outside for long when it is snowing of freezing. I mean imagine yourself dressed in your heavy coat, and your warmest boots: Would you bare to stay outside the whole night just because you are dressed enough? That’s what I thought. So this is how the story goes:
Even though some dog breeds can bare the low temperatures, not all of them can bare the low temperatures. An exception to this rule are Huskies and Malamutes because they were bred for the cold. But even these dogs need to come inside sometimes.
Since Indianapolis Animal Control was getting a lot of calls about dogs left outside, they decided to get some things straight, and let these owners who let their dogs outside all the cases that they are allowed to do so. This way these poor creatures will not be freezing ever again during winter, or dying from the heat during summer.
Indianapolis Animal and Pet control gave all the owners a list of times when they should bring the dogs inside.
1- When the temperature dips below 20 degrees, dogs have to come inside.
2- Dogs have to come inside when there is a wind-chill warning.
3- Dogs need to come inside when the mercury rises above 90 degrees or there’s a heat advisory. Also when there’s a tornado warning.
Furthermore there are rules for dog houses as well:
4- If the temperature is below 40, dogs in Indianapolis must have a house with moisture-wicking bedding. Typical dog blankets will absorb moisture, which will freeze.
And if the owners of these pets refuse to do so, then they will get a penalty that ranges from $25- $200.
DOGS LIVES MATTER, SAVE THEM!!!
