Last week, Lionel Messi was asked to compare the current Argentina squad that won the World Cup to that rampaging Barcelona team under Pep Guardiola that won the sextuple. Leo stated that this Argentine team is close to reaching those levels.
“I think this team is impressive, it continues to grow. Barcelona was the best in history, wasn’t it? This [Argentina] team is very close, it has been champion of America, of the world, we have great players, we have a style of play very marked, which identifies us, let’s hope to continue on this path,” Messi said.
In his reply, Guardiola agreed with Messi by saying the legend understands the situation better having played for both sides.
“With the intuition and quality that Messi has to analyze what happened on the football field and that he has been on both sides, why am I not going to believe him?” Pep asked.
“I can’t talk about Argentina because I’m not there. He was in Argentina and Barcelona, so it’s nice,” the Manchester City gaffer surmised.
