Fabrizio Romano Reveals Latest on Lionel Messi as Barcelona, PSG Have Interest

The contract of Lionel Messi expires in 2023 and while most players in his situation would be pondering their future, that’s not the case with the Argentine.

Messi focuses on Argentina and the FIFA World Cup in November, which will likely be his last opportunity to win the trophy that has long eluded him. As a result, the 35-year-old isn’t in a rush to make a decision.

Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano provided the latest regarding Messi’s contract situation, stating the veteran forward has no desire to decide on his future in the coming weeks or months.

“Leo Messi will not make any decision on his future in the next weeks or months,” Romano tweeted on Tuesday.

“Focused on Paris Saint-Germain and then World Cup, nothing will be decided or planned before the World Cup. Despite PSG new deal plans and Barça interest, Leo will not proceed before 2023.”

After a rollercoaster first season, Messi has found a consistent form this year with PSG, settling into the playmaker role while allowing Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. to spearhead the goal scoring for the French giants.

It will be interesting to see what Messi decides to do with his future, either continue this venture in Paris or return to a club that had him in tears after leaving in 2021. Regardless of the decision, it will likely occur late in the season.
