Dogs for centuries have been human’s companions. We think that we are familiar with most dog breeds, but it is not true. dogs have a lot of different, weird, unheard of breeds. If i speak for myself, and probably for the majority, these are very rare dog breeds. I am not saying that they are totally unknown, but they definitely are not familiar to many people. Here there are 11 rare dog breeds, that actually great companions for many families.
1. Azawakh
West Africa is their homeland. They are very timid by nature, but once they get to know you they became very affectionate. This rare dog breed is mostly used for hunting gazelles and other fleet animals of the African deserts.
2- Carolina dog
Because they have appeared in the old Native American rock paintings, they are thought to be one of the oldest canine species of North America. Even thought they have been domesticated this rare dog breed is still wild, and lives owner free.
3-Catahoula Leopard Dog
This rare dog breed comes from Catahoula Parish in Luisiana, and they are named after it. They are well-known for their incredible hunting skills.
4- Lundehund
This is definitely a very rare dog breed. The Lundehund has six toes in each foot, it has the ability to tip its head backwards and touch its backbone, and it can prick its ears at will. I think these characteristics make it one of a kind.
5- Mudi
This rare dog breed comes from Hungary, and they are very rare for the rest of the world. They have a thick coat and curly hair, yet a smooth lovely face. Their special characteristic is the highly energetic attitude of theirs.
6- Neapolitan Mastiff
This rate dog breed originates from the ancient rome. After WWII they almost went extinct until an Italian painter decided to protect them and breed them with the English Mastiff. It has evolved as a breed, and one of them even appeared in the Harry Potter movies.
7- The Pachón Navarro
This rare dog breed originates from Spain. It is known to be an extremely hunting dog breed with unique skills. It’s double nose is just different than any other dog,s nose, but it functions just like a regular dog nose.
8- Salish Wool Dog
This rare dog breed is now extinct as a distinct breed. It was a small dog with white curly hair. They used to keep them in groups that ranged from 12-20 dogs.
9- Thai Ridgeback
This rare dog breed originates from Asia. They are extremely similar with the Rhodesian Ridgeback. They are extremely powerful, and are used as guardian dogs in their homes.
10- Tibetan Mastiff
Not so long ago a Tibetan Mastiff was sold for 1.5 million dollars in China, and therefore it became the most expensive dog ever sold. They are extremely powerful, able to guard entire villages, families, and flocks.
11- Xoloitzcuintli
This rare dog breed comes from Mexico. It is a medium-sized, hairless dog, and they are used just like regular pets.
